Will the Lions Roar Past Lewisville?

1 Comment 06 September 2012

Ennis LionsThe Ennis Lions are roaring back this season after a rebuilding year that has the team in prime contention for a return to the playoffs. Postseason is something the Lions know a little about, having won three state 4A titles in five years between 2000 and 2004. After a dominating scrimmage against Weatherford, the Lions started the season in strong fashion with an impressive 30-16 road victory against Burleson Centennial.

This Week’s Game

Ennis is proud to be part of the TXA 21 and Children’s North Texas High School “Game of the Week” against the Lewisville Fighting Farmers, to be broadcast at 10:30 p.m. Friday night. It will be the Lions’ home opener as the team hopes to build upon last week’s win, in which Ennis racked up 257 yards rushing and added another 115 yards through the air. The defense also played well, highlighted by a key goal-line stand in the third quarter.

Players to Watch

Running backs Terence Williams (134 yards) and Nick Gabriel (89 yards) paced the ground game while quarterback Brandon Adams operated efficiently, completing seven of 15 passes. On the defensive side, Malik Jenkins returned an interception 60 yards for the Lions’ final score of the night.

The Lions have an admittedly young squad, with a healthy number of sophomores dotting the roster. But if spring football and the start of the season are any indication, the Ennis Lions are maturing quickly and ready to compete in the extremely tough District 15-4A.
