• The Heart Center’s surgical team continues to pioneer advances in minimally invasive and bypass techniques to provide better outcomes for patients. The team performs more than 500 cardiac surgical procedures and more than 300 open-heart procedures annually.
• Children’s has the highest volume of pediatric hearts transplanted in Texas. One of only two pediatric heart transplant centers in Texas. Children’s has performed more than 140 pediatric heart transplants since performing Dallas’ first in 1988.
• The program provides an aggressive approach to bridge patients to transplantation using ventricular assist devices, including the Berlin Heart.
• Children’s is the first hospital in the nation – pediatric or adult – to receive The Joint Commission disease-specific certification for Fetal Heart Disease.
• The 20-bed Cardiac ICU at Children’s is the only one in North Texas staffed full-time with intensivists trained in both cardiac and critical care medicine.
• The pediatric catheterization lab is one of only three of its kind in the nation, equipped with state-of-the-art imaging that significantly reduces radiation levels. The Heart Center’s catheterization team performs more than 700 catheterizations annually and continues to innovate with devices such as the Melody Valve.
